Spotlight Series: 2017 Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, Day 4
All this week ASN is honoring our direct support providers. As we have introduced you to some of our most valuable support providers, you may have noticed some commonalities in the employees we have described. Good Direct Support Professionals are individuals who work hard, dedicate themselves to learning about and knowing the needs, wants, and desires of the individuals they support, and routinely go above and beyond to ensure the individuals they serve are properly supported. Today’s DSPs are no exception:
David Garrett is one of ASN’s long standing Adult Companion providers and an all-around great guy. He has opened his home and his life up to the individual he supports for over 15 years. They have just recently moved into a new home and the first priority David had was to get a ramp built for the person he supports out on the back deck so he could enjoy his new surroundings. David worked tirelessly to find someone that could make this happen. And his efforts paid off. The person David supports is able to enjoy the full extent of his new home, inside and out. This is just the most recent example of David’s dedication and commitment to ensuring the world is accessible to the person he serves.
Mike Aleman has been employed with ASN for 10 years. He is always willing to go above and beyond for the individuals he serves. Mike makes sure that everything is taken care of, whether it’s medical appointments, grocery shopping, or getting out into the community to have fun. Mike is a dependable staff person who communicates effectively with everyone from the individuals he supports to other staff members to management. He supports individuals who experience significant needs and commits to their best interest and inclusion, regardless of the challenges he faces. ASN is lucky to have someone with Mike’s willingness to prioritize the individuals we support and do whatever is necessary for them, and we appreciate all that he does.
Vernell Parrish recently joined the ASN team in Camden, but he has made a huge impact from his very first day. Vernell is a great team player. He has jumped right into his work and takes on every challenge with enthusiasm and a positive attitude, no matter how difficult. Vernell treats the person he supports with dignity and respect and shows great concern for his well being. He is always willing to go the extra mile and available at all times. ASN is happy to have him as a part of the family and look forward to the great work he will continue to do.
Check back tomorrow as we close out our celebration of Direct Support Professionals at ASN by recognizing a few more of our amazing support staff.
